Victim blaming

When I was reading about feminism for the first time, I stumbled upon this term – ‘’victim blaming”. I was curious and wanted to learn more about it. After reading some articles and blogs, it all seemed very familiar to me. Especially because it happens a lot in South Asia (that’s where I am from). Oftentimes victims (survivors) are not believed, accused of being at the wrong place. Focusing on survivor’s body language, what survivor could have done to protect themselves are different forms of victim blaming.

The following video shows how ridiculous it actually sounds to blame the victim.

A battered woman may experience post-traumatic stress like a prisoner of war or hostage [2]. Therefore, the most important thing (whether in therapy or not) is to believe the survivor. The survivors must be in control of their healing process. Because some of the survivors may not need the mental support, they might just need to know about their legal rights and resources.
