Fieldwork in Inuvik, June 2011
In June 2011 I traveled north to Inuvik, where I spent a week working with my colleagues Mervin Joe (Parks Canada) and Catherine Cockney (Manager, Inuvialuit Cultural Resource Centre) to conduct consultations with local partners, community members, elders, and school children and teachers about the prototype of our work in progress, the Inuvialuit Living History Project (soon to publicly launched at http://inuvialuitlivinghistory.ca). Inuvik was sunny and clear, with the last pieces of ice floating down the river after Spring breakup. I was really thrilled to be able to talk to members of the wider Inuvik community about the project and was really grateful for the excellent feedback and suggestions that we received. Now our team is working to implement suggestions and to rework the project to reflect community input. I can’t wait to visit Inuvik again and show the next iteration of the digital project. My sincere thanks to Mervin Joe and Catherine Cockney for hosting me and working with me throughout the week, and to Natasha Lyons and Charles Arnold for all of their work in advance of my trip.
