The\u00a0UBC iSchool has been named best in the world for Library and Information Management graduate programs. Congratulations Hannah, we are so happy that you are returning to Vancouver! Dr. Turner was a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow in the Making Culture Lab 2017-2018, and was a Lecturer at Museum Studies at Leicester University in the UK 2018-2019.<\/p>\n<p>____________<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2414\" src=\"http:\/\/hennessy.iat.sfu.ca\/mcl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/20170522_HannahTurnerHeadshots_RM_174_v1_web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"705\" height=\"674\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hennessy.iat.sfu.ca\/mcl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/20170522_HannahTurnerHeadshots_RM_174_v1_web.jpg 705w, https:\/\/hennessy.iat.sfu.ca\/mcl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/20170522_HannahTurnerHeadshots_RM_174_v1_web-300x287.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>UBC iSchool is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Dr. Hannah Turner beginning September 1, 2019.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Dr. Hannah Turner is a critical information studies scholar who\u00a0investigates the connection between documentation, culture, and technology. She\u00a0broadly investigate\u00a0how\u00a0ethnographic material culture has been produced and circulated using different recording and documentation technologies through time. In particular, she is interested in how technologies can be used ethically for better practice between museums and originating communities.\u00a0Her upcoming book, the Legacy of Data (UBC Press, 2020)\u00a0is a history of ethnographic documentation practices and the\u00a0classification and the cataloguing of material culture collections in the Smithsonian\u2019s Department of Anthropology.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>She is also interested in how new\u00a0digital\u00a0technologies are used to represent tangible and intangible cultural heritage. With\u00a0several\u00a03D digitization research and curatorial projects,\u00a0she questions how objects and belongings are actively shaped by\u00a0those who create and manipulate their digital representations. She has published on the politics of digital access, the decolonization of museum databases, learning with 3D printing, and the organization of knowledge in museums.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Prior to joining UBC, Hannah was a Lecturer in Museum Studies at the University of Leicester, and a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow in the Making Culture Lab at SFU.
