So, I thought this was a pretty cool concept. I really don’t have much to say about it other than that it’s worth a read. Even the article is a little over my head but they dumb it down enough for physics impaired readers like myself.

There is a lot of interesting language used in the article that uses the computer as metaphor for the universe, and therefore reality. They talk of bandwidth, data storage,  and processing capacity to describe qualities of the universe, almost as if it is a giant computer system in itself.

The last few paragraphs are food for thought:

“Indeed, it sort of untethers the definition of “simulation” entirely. If we are living in a giant hologram, can we really say that all the sim worlds and MMOs we’ve built aren’t as real as our universe’s planets, star clusters and galaxies, all of which boil down to quantum dots on a cosmic bitmap?

Perhaps the only thing we can say with any certainty is this: If our universe is a simulation, it’s probably as close to a perfect one as we can ever hope to achieve. In that sense, living in the Matrix doesn’t sound so bad, after all.”
